Join Us for a Two-Day Dive Adventure: The Tampa & The Wexford

We’re excited to host a special two-day charter exploring two of Lake Huron’s most fascinating shipwrecks — the Tampa and the Wexford. This is an incredible opportunity for divers to experience both a historic wooden steamer and one of the lake’s most iconic steel freighters in a single weekend.

Day 1 – The Tampa (100 ft)

Originally known as the “Mystery Wreck,” the Tampa is a 290 ft wooden vessel resting near Kettle Point. Sitting upright in 100 ft of water, the site features two prominent Scotch boilers, a four-blade propeller with two blades broken off, and a hull burned to the waterline.

Built in 1890, the Tampa survived multiple sinkings, salvage attempts, and even a lightning strike that ultimately burned her where she lay. First located in 2008 and positively identified in 2024, the Tampa offers a rare look into Great Lakes history.

Water temps range from 40–70°F depending on the season, and visibility varies with conditions. A drysuit is recommended.

Day 2 – The Wexford (75 ft)

The Wexford is a 250 ft steel-hulled freighter lost in the infamous “Great Storm of 1913,” which claimed 19 ships and over 250 lives. Discovered 87 years later, she now sits upright in 75 ft of water with open decks, exposed holds, and multiple levels to explore.

Often called a “jungle gym for divers,” the Wexford still contains scattered artifacts such as dishes, utensils, and tools — a haunting glimpse into a tragic chapter of Canadian maritime history.

Diver Requirements

• Minimum Advanced Open Water Certification

• Cold water diving experience required

• Wreck penetration only for divers with appropriate training and gear

Trip Details

• 2 days of diving

• 2 dives per day

• Not included: gear rentals, accommodation, transportation

• All charters are weather dependent and conditions may be challenging.

• Water temperature varies widely; drysuits are recommended.

• All divers must sign a liability waiver before departure.
