Competency-Based Training

All PADI courses offered by Dive World are competency-based, meaning students must successfully demonstrate the knowledge and in-water performance requirements established by PADI before they can complete a course or earn certification.

Each course page clearly outlines what is included in the course fee, including the number of scheduled training sessions, equipment rentals, course materials, and instructor-led training. The course fee covers these scheduled training sessions—it does not guarantee course completion or certification within that timeframe.

While the vast majority of students complete their training within the sessions included with their course, every student learns at a different pace. In some cases, additional instruction and practice may be required to safely and confidently meet the required performance standards.

If you have completed all of the training sessions included with your course but have not yet met the applicable PADI performance requirements, you have two options:

  • Continue your training with Dive World by scheduling additional training sessions. Additional training is billed at our current training rates.
  • Receive a PADI Referral, documenting the portions of the course you have successfully completed, allowing you to continue your training with another PADI Dive Centre.

Our goal is never to rush students through a course. Our commitment is to provide the instruction, coaching, and support necessary to help every student become a safe, competent, and confident diver.

If you have any questions about what is included in your course or how competency-based training works, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to explain the training process before you register.

Refunds for training

Students are eligible for a full tuition refund up to 7 days before their scheduled date.

We apologize but we cannot refund the cost of course materials including but not limited to:

Reschedualing Fee

In the event that you need to reschedule any portion of your course, please do your best to give us notice as far in advance as possible. Unfortunately, if you have to reschedule within 7 days of your course, a $100 rescheduling fee will be charged to cover a portion of staff costs.

No shows or less than 24 hrs notice is 100% forfeit of course fee

Course promotional rates

Unfortunately, any registrations for scuba diving courses, lessons, or experiences purchased at a promotional price are non refundable.

Charter fees

We required 14 days notice in order to cancel or reschedule a charter reservation. This includes fun diving and training that is scheduled on a dive charter

If a charter is cancelled by the charter operator due to weather or other safety-related concerns, divers will be issued a credit equal to the value of the dives missed.

This credit may be applied towards any future charter of equal or greater value.

Credits do not expire and may be transferred to another diver with advance notice.

Please note that refunds are not provided for weather-related cancellations.

Additional gas fills ( Local Trips )

For any training programs conducted on local trips away from Toronto, student divers are responsible for the cost of any additional gas fills required during the course.
